Time to discover your potential?

2021 hasn’t exactly started the way we all had hoped. But instead of focusing on the negatives and the things you can’t do; I believe it’s time to become the best that you can be by discovering your true potential through continued personal growth.

I believe that people who listen and realise things about themselves, learn something every day, give it their all and keep growing, will get closer to achieving their full potential. Aristotle summed it up beautifully when he said. “Knowing yourself is the beginning of wisdom.”

And personally of course, I was presented with a great opportunity for personal growth in 2014 when I was made redundant, and also found myself dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis. It was at this time that I decided I wanted to be able to make better choices and positive changes in my day-to-day life and future career.

While I was going through treatment I started my Coaching Diploma and spent some time thinking about why I wanted to set up my own business and who I wanted to support.  Red Clematis Coaching Services was ‘born’ in October 2014 and my purpose then, as it still is today, was to help people grow and develop, overcome obstacles, accomplish goals and enjoy success in their business or chosen career.

If you feel you are lacking direction and need to kick start a new you, here are three areas for you to initially focus on:

1.    What does success look like?

Success is defined by who you are and the person you aspire to be. It is not a one-off thing to be ticked off a list, more like a constant journey with ever changing scenery. So, as a first step to discovering your potential, it’s important for you to define what does success mean in your life? It could be financial, career or goal related, to do with learning something new, persevering through hard times, or based on improving your knowledge and benefiting from different life experiences.

2.    What can you learn?

When you open your mind and believe that everything in life is here to teach you something and is an invitation for you to learn and grow as a person, then everything that happens to you has meaning. So instead of random events which may annoy you or make your life difficult, you can reimagine them as happening to teach you something, whether that’s patience, forgiveness, kindness, self-love, compassion or simply letting go.

3.    Invest in yourself!

Take time to assess your skills, look at what you enjoy and fill in any gaps. Consider professional training, mentoring or coaching to finely tune your skills or find opportunities where you can improve or develop yourself further. It’s important to engage in activities that appeal to your true strengths, so you can explore and build on them. Plus, if extra qualifications or a promotion mean you can go further, then take the leap, because as the famous L’Oréal tagline says, ‘you’re worth it.’

We only get one life, so we need to live it the best way we can. If you have hopes and dreams for the future which are not being realised, contact me so I can help you to tease them out, so your process of self-discovery and achieving your potential can begin.
